OUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE PRESERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF TERRITORIES IS USEFUL AND NECESSARY

Environmental responsibility is an essential component of sustainable development. Beyond the best practices we adopt at our sites, what characterises SYSTRA is linking the technical identity of projects to a sustainable design approach.

Climate change and carbon emissions are at the forefront of international development programmes, and SYSTRA, as a global company in the mobility sector, has an important role to play. By optimising and enhancing projects that have a positive effect on the carbon footprint, we make a major contribution to the carbon neutrality pathways sought by our clients. SYSTRA’s hallmark sustainability style expresses itself throughout the lifecycle of projects we support, from the planning to dismantling phase, via the design, construction and operation and maintenance. To achieve this, we leverage the key assets of SYSTRA around the world: our technical excellence, our mastery of ecodesign and our farsighted and innovative vision on sustainable mobility topics.

To effectively meet the challenges of sustainability and climate change, all infrastructure projects must anticipate maximising the benefits for territories and populations, but also minimising the environmental impacts linked to their execution and operation over time. Our expertise enables us to have a global vision of the lifecycle of our projects and, thanks to our holistic approach to ecodesign, we integrate the impacts of projects from the extraction of the raw materials used in construction right up to the end of the lifecycle. We have developed methods and interdisciplinary tools that allow us to have a systemic approach integrating the environmental aspects (taking into account natural resources, atmospheric pollution, quality of life inside and around the built environment etc.), and the technical and economic aspects. Our aim is to propose optimised and sustainable solutions to our clients, for the good of the environment and generations to come.

Zohra MEZHOUR, Sustainable Mobility Engineer

Ecodesign is a project design method that covers all areas of expertise. It aims to reduce environmental impacts, enhance the positive effects on sustainability by taking into account the performance of the entire transport system, cost control and returns on investment over the entire life cycle of a project.

Our vision is to provide the technical expertise to bridge the link between balancing complex infrastructure design requirements with the immediate obligation to conserve biodiversity and protect the natural environment. We aim to assess, appraise and mitigate potential ecological constraints in a timely fashion to ensure both the dualities of environmental legal compliance and innovative environmental engineering design solutions are incorporated in the complex and exciting infrastructure projects we work on. We pride ourselves on our pragmatic ‘real world’ approach in seamlessly working with our engineering and design colleagues as well as external stakeholders to problem solve and balance ecological priorities with client expectations to avoid delays during design and construction.
