EGIP Line - Edinburgh – Glasgow

EGIP Line - Edinburgh – Glasgow

SYSTRA has been appointed to carry out OLE (Overhead Line Electrification) design for Key Output One of the Edinburgh – Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP).

This project aims to enhance this 80km conventional double railway line between two of Scotland’s major cities. It will enable the increased length of trains (8 cars vs 6) by the electrification of the line, which will reduce the journey time to 42 minutes.

After a design production undertaken by SYSTRA from 2015 to 2016, commissioning of the new electrified line is planned for 31 August 2016 (to allow commencement of driver training). Full passenger ready service will be on the way for December 2018.

The EGIP line will include the completition of the renovation of Queen Street Station in Glasgow.
