Bogota Metro – Colombia
Bogota’s first metro line is due to enter service in 2022. SYSTRA has been working on this project from the outset, producing the very first preliminary studies. Today, SYSTRA has been awarded the contract to project manage the design phase and build a U-shaped viaduct metro line for the people of Colombia.
This elevated metro line will largely run alongside Avenue Caracas. The network’s first new metro line will stretch 25 km and comprise 15 stations, 10 of which will connect to Bogota’s existing bus network services.
This route was chosen to improve city centre access for those living in the capital’s outlying northern and southern districts. More generally, this metro line will revolutionise transport systems in Bogota, a city, which had no metro network despite a population of over 8 million.
The centrepiece of the city’s future transport network will be this U-shaped viaduct line. It’s an affordable solution for Colombia, comprising a shorter construction schedule : work will start on detailed designs in 2017 and construction activities in 2018.
SYSTRA is responsible for managing the construction tender. In 2016, the Group produced design studies for the line, infrastructures (viaduct and station) and railway systems.
