The Pragati Maidan Bridge

SYSTRA was appointed project manager for the construction of the U-shaped extradossed bridge for the Indraprastha- Barakhamba Road – Dwarka Line in Delhi, India.

Most of Delhi’s third metro line serving Indraprastha- Barakhamba Road– Dwarka, is built on a viaduct. The Barakhamba-Indraprastha section of viaduct includes the first extradossed bridge in India and the second one of its kind in the world.
SYSTRA was involved from the beginning in the design of the bridge. SYSTRA’s Indian subsidiary, SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India) Private Limited was responsible for all the civil engineering design studies, systems interface and works supervision. The 3-month study phase included:

  • Bridge design;
  • Study of the foundations;
  • Study of the piers and pylons;
  • Seismic study;
  • Longitudinal and transverse deck analysis;
  • Drainage;
  • Construction geometry;
  • Technical specifications;
  • Writing a maintenance and instrument manual.
