The Awash – Kombolcha – Hara Gebeya Rail Link
SYSTRA was awarded a contract to assist the contracting authority to build a standard gauge electrified rail link between Awash and Hara Gebeya in Ethiopia.
Due for commissioning in 2018 this about 400 km line is designed to carry both passengers and freight. It will be Ethopia’s second railway line, after the historic Addis-Abeba Djibouti line.
The Awash – Hara Gebeya line is part of a vast development project in Ethiopia under which the Government plans to build a 2 000 km railway network.
SYSTRA is providing assistance to the contracting authority in the following fields:
- Management of engineering, procurement and construction (turnkey) contracts
- Engineering management contracts
- Management of procurement activities and construction work
- Design verifications
- Works supervision
- Claims management
- Management of contractual modifications
SYSTRA’s works supervision team has been on site since March 2015 and the first tunnel was bored early 2016.
