Lille Metro – Lines 1 & 2
SYSTRA was awarded the contract to project manage the construction of two automated Lines - Lines 1 and 2 – of the Lille metro between 1974 and 2000.
These two lines connect all four of the city’s major urban hubs - Lille, Roubaix, Tourcoing and Villeneuve d’Ascq - strengthening cohesion among the districts.
In 1974, SYSTRA produced preliminary designs for Metro Line 1. Since then, SYSTRA has been involved in all the subsequent phases of the construction of the metro network.
Between 1978 and 2000, SYSTRA was responsible for project management as well as the design and construction of:
- Most of the civil engineering components of underground structures,
- Installations not associated with the light automatic railway system, stations and associated structures,
- Equipment not associated with the light automatic railway system (lifts, escalators, ventilation, drainage) for both lines.
Since 2010, SYSTRA has been a member of the transport system and infrastructure project management consortium responsible for the operation and future 1500m extension of Line 1 (52 m train sets).
