The Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet) has selected NIRAS and SYSTRA (formerly Atkins Denmark) as the lead consultants for the extension of the Hiller\u00f8d Motorway between Aller\u00f8d and Hiller\u00f8d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project description<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The project involves expanding the existing expressway to a four-lane motorway with a speed limit of 110 km\/h along the entire 13 km stretch between Aller\u00f8d S and Hiller\u00f8d N. The extension of the Hiller\u00f8d Motorway is part of the Infrastructure Plan 2035, and the project has an estimated construction cost of nearly 0.9 billion DKK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project includes comprehensive consultancy services for the detailed design leading up to the tendering of the construction project, which involves the expansion of the Hiller\u00f8d Motorway extension between Aller\u00f8d S and Hiller\u00f8d N.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SYSTRA is a subcontractor on the project with NIRAS as the main consultant. In the collaboration with NIRAS and SYSTRA, the Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet) is ensured the requested competencies and necessary resources to complete the project. SYSTRA greatly values the cooperation with the Danish Road Directorate and NIRAS on this exciting task.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SYSTRA’s special contribution to the joint project organization will include, among other things, the interchanges \u2013 that is, the design of new or reconstruction of existing bridges, the associated connections to the surrounding roads, coordination concerning railway crossings, planning of construction logistics, and traffic safety during execution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The extension of the motorway will also result in fewer accidents, as most serious accidents on the expressway section today typically occur as head-on collisions or accidents during turning, which can happen on the so-called 2+1 road solution \u2013 and such accidents do not occur on motorways<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Consideration for the environment

<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, an expansion of the existing 12 rainwater basins along the stretch and the establishment of two new ones are included. The basins are designed to collect water and potential chemical spills from the road, preventing harmful substances such as oil or chemicals from entering the environment<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project also includes the establishment of compensatory nature areas to mitigate potential impacts on the surrounding environment, as well as sound barriers along significant portions of the stretch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The forthcoming extended motorway is anticipated to be operational by 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
