The current bridge, an almost 100-year-old concrete arch bridge, is worn out and needs to be replaced. Located south of Emdrup Station, the bridge carries the busy Tuborgvej over two S-train tracks on the Farum line. The existing bridge comprises four lanes for vehicles, two bike paths, and two sidewalks, spanning approximately 35 meters over the S-train tracks. Daily, around 27,000 vehicles and up to 4,000 cyclists cross the bridge, making it an important part of Copenhagen Municipality’s prioritized road network<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A two-lane interim bridge will alleviate traffic<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The solution involves the construction of a two-lane interim bridge over the S-train line, north of the existing bridge and parallel to Tuborgvej, before the construction work for the new bridge begins. This will ensure that traffic can be maintained in two lanes on Tuborgvej during the construction period, alleviating traffic and relieving the surrounding area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SYSTRA Denmark is responsible for developing the authority project, project proposal, and tender project. As part of the project, a geological and geotechnical preliminary study has already been conducted based on available data, including maps and previously performed geotechnical investigations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once a contractor is selected, SYSTRA Denmark will also oversee the tender project, project follow-ups, and technical supervision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Life cycle assessment was part of the preliminary analysis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sustainability was one of the three criteria that Copenhagen Municipality emphasized when selecting the final solution for the bridge replacement. Therefore, SYSTRA’s sustainability experts prepared a life cycle analysis focused on the carbon footprint for the project in 2023. The life cycle analysis included two possible solutions, of which solution 2 was adopted, and it is this solution that SYSTRA will continue to work on for Copenhagen Municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
