Therefore, this collection should be viewed as an inspiration catalog.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the years, The Public Transport Companies have optimized bus routes, frequency, and comfort in buses, thereby improving public transportation and increasing the number of passengers. However, it has become evident that improvements at bus stops and in the surrounding environment have significant potential to not only enhance the experience for current users but also attract more bus passengers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-30-of-the-journey-is-spent-at-a-stop-nbsp\">30% OF THE JOURNEY IS SPENT AT A STOP&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>30% of the time used on travelling by public transportation is spent getting to and from stops, as well as waiting at these stops before the bus arrives. Therefore, the design of the stop and accessibility to and from the stops are important to passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This is why SYSTRA has chosen to focus on solutions within five main themes:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Traffic safety and security&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Comfort, information, and wayfinding&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accessibility&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sustainability and climate protection&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Landscape and urban spaces&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>SYSTRA has contacted a wide range of employees in the municipalities involved, who have made their knowledge available for the good examples in the collection.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sustainable-choices-of-materials-and-lower-co2-emissions-nbsp\">SUSTAINABLE CHOICES OF MATERIALS AND LOWER CO2 EMISSIONS&nbsp;<br><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Statistics Denmark, the transport sector accounts for approximately 25% of Denmark&#8217;s total CO2 emissions. By promoting public transportation instead of car usage, CO2 emissions can be reduced, as buses have significantly lower CO2 emissions per passenger kilometer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The collection of examples describes how the construction of bus stops with a focus on sustainable material choices can contribute to a lower CO2 footprint during the construction phase, for instance, by using the material pyramid and requiring product-specific Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and life cycle analyses.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, sustainable initiatives are described that can help lower operational costs, such as avoiding grass areas that require ongoing maintenance and instead introducing nutrient-poor soil with biodiversity-promoting local plant species, as well as using recycled tiles or alternative pavements.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div data-wp-interactive=\"core\/file\" class=\"wp-block-file has-blanc-background-color has-background\"><object data-wp-bind--hidden=\"!state.hasPdfPreview\" hidden class=\"wp-block-file__embed\" data=\"https:\/\/www.systra.com\/denmark\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2024\/05\/6456608_trafikogveje-05-2024-high-rgb-1.pdf\" type=\"application\/pdf\" style=\"width:100%;height:600px\" aria-label=\"Embed of Bedre busstoppestedsmilj\u00f8er giver flere buspassagerer.\"><\/object><a aria-label=\" \u2013 (PDF - 1 MB)\" title=\"Download file Bedre busstoppestedsmilj\u00f8er giver flere buspassagerer \u2013 (PDF - 1 MB)\" id=\"wp-block-file--media-1877ee56-02a7-479a-abc4-c9f5cb63bd9c\" href=\"https:\/\/www.systra.com\/denmark\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2024\/05\/6456608_trafikogveje-05-2024-high-rgb-1.pdf\">Bedre busstoppestedsmilj\u00f8er giver flere buspassagerer<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SYSTRA, in collaboration with the Danish Road Directorate and the working group for public transport regulations, has developed a collection of examples for bus stop environments.
