# SYSTRA Hong Kong Paving the Way for Smart Mobility at LEGOLAND Shanghai and the Resort

With its sprawling attractions and immersive LEGO-themed experiences, LEGOLAND
Shanghai Resort is expected to draw millions of visitors annually.

The project is situated in Jinshan District, on the southwestern side of
Shanghai, with Jinshan North High-Speed Railway (HSR) Station located just north
of the site. One of the key challenges of the project lies in designing the
internal traffic and transport facilities and external road networks capable of
handling mega volumes of visitors arriving and departing within short
timeframes.

LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort is a world-class family destination designed for
children ages 2–12. Featuring 8 themed lands, over 75 interactive rides and
shows, and more than 85 million LEGO bricks. Its signature Mini land showcases
stunning LEGO miniatures of global landmarks and iconic Chinese cities. Unique
attractions include the world’s first Big LEGO Coaster, the 60-meter-tall
LEGOLAND Observation Tower. Families can extend the adventure at the LEGOLAND
Hotel, which offers 250 themed rooms.

**SYSTRA Hong Kong provided Traffic Consultancy Services for Strategic Transport Design for High-Volume Crowds in LEGOLAND Shanghai**

The solution involves Overall Planning Strategy and Multi-Modal Access
integration has been developed to address the challenge:

**Public Transport Hub with Adequate Capacity**

A well-designed public transport hub adjacent to the theme park ensures seamless
arrivals and departures, with facilities scaled to handle peak visitor volumes
efficiently.

**Public Transport Linkage with Major Transport Hubs**

Direct and frequent public transport linkages should connect the theme park to
major regional hubs such as high-speed rail stations, town centers, and
long-distance bus terminals, providing visitors with convenient and sustainable
travel options.

**Mass Private Car Parking with Multiple Accesses **

A large-capacity car park with multiple entry and exit disperses vehicle flows,
reducing congestion and wait times for guests arriving by private car.

**Diverge and Convenient Access Routes with Minimal Conflicts and Cross Movements for Multi-Modal Traffic**

Access roads should be designed to separate and streamline flows of cars, buses,
and service vehicles, minimizing crossing points and potential traffic conflicts
to ensure smooth and safe circulation.

**Safe and Spacious Pedestrian Walkway and Connections**

Wide, well-signposted pedestrian walkways and connections directly link
transport facilities to park entrances, prioritising safety and comfort for
visitors moving around the site.
