SYSTRA Canada is an engineering and consulting firm whose primary focus is to offer transportation solutions, whether for passengers or goods: feasibility studies of building a new railway line, increasing the capacity of the existing infrastructure, privatization of a railway.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px\">Understand better who we are by visiting www.systracanada.com.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2>Context<\/h2>\n<p><p style=\"margin: 6pt 0in 2pt;text-align: justify\">The Ecology &amp; Natural Heritage Senior Specialist will bring his contribution to the project in Ontario.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2>Missions\/Main Duties<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Review of previously completed investigations and reporting.<\/li>\n<li>Identify data gaps and commitments.<\/li>\n<li>Development of the DD&amp;I scope and schedule related to their specialty.<\/li>\n<li>Lead the subject matter team tasked to complete DD&amp;I work and reporting.<\/li>\n<li>Incorporation of requirements into design. Confirmation that requirements and commitments are executed.<\/li>\n<li>Leads assessment and mitigation planning for vegetation, wildlife, species at risk, and natural heritage features.<\/li>\n<li>Plans and oversees baseline terrestrial and aquatic field investigations.<\/li>\n<li>Conducts ecological impact assessments and supports route design to minimize impacts to sensitive ecological areas.<\/li>\n<li>Develops all ecology (terrestrial and aquatic) and natural heritage EMPs.<\/li>\n<li>Develops monitoring, restoration, and habitat compensation strategies where required.<\/li>\n<li>Ensures compliance with applicable federal and provincial ecological legislation and policies.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinates agency consultation related to natural heritage approvals.<\/li>\n<li>Provides ecological input during detailed design and construction, including environmental monitoring and inspection requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Works closely with Permitting and Approvals Lead to ensure required permits are in line with the overall permitting strategy for the project corridor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Profile\/Skills<\/h2>\n<p><p style=\"margin: 0px\"><strong>Education: &#8211; <\/strong>a bachelor or advanced degree from a recognized university in a field of study related to historical and architectural aspects of Built Heritage Resources and Cultural Heritage Landscapes or Archaeology;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px\">Additional training in project management or heritage regulations would be an asset.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px\"><strong>Years of Experience: <\/strong>7 to 10 years of professional experience, ideally acquired on large-scale projects or in complex environments (linear, urban, or rail projects).<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px\"><strong>Technical Skills:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience with similar projects in the Province of Ontario.<\/li>\n<li>knowledge of the Species at Risk Act (Canada), the Fisheries Act (Canada), the Endangered Species Act (Ontario), the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act (Ontario) and related policies and regulations; experience in applying for MECP permits and DFO approvals;<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in preventive archaeological excavation, diagnostic, and evaluation methods.<\/li>\n<li>Good knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework applicable to archaeological work and heritage management.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to write high-quality study reports and to synthesize scientific data.<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tools and archaeological databases.<\/li>\n<li>Experience managing archaeological sites in constrained environments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px\"><strong>Personal Qualities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with various technical profiles.<\/li>\n<li>Independence, thoroughness, and strong organizational skills.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent communication, teaching, and scientific outreach abilities.<\/li>\n<li>Adaptability, responsiveness, and ability to work in changing contexts or under tight deadlines.<\/li>\n<li>Initiative and a proactive approach to solving complex problems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><!---text--> <\/h2>\n<p><p style=\"margin: 0px\">SYSTRA Canada is committed to having a diverse and inclusive workforce.
