Sydney Metro is Australia’s biggest public transport project, revolutionising the way Sydney travels.
Challenge
The Sydney Metro West project will support a growing city and deliver world-class metro services to more communities. This new underground railway will connect Greater Parramatta and the Sydney central business district (CBD). This once-in-a-century infrastructure investment will transform Sydney for generations to come, doubling rail capacity between the two CBDs, linking new communities to rail services and supporting employment growth and housing supply.
SYSTRA is supporting Sydney Metro in the delivery of this project by providing expertise in Digital Engineering development and implementation. SYSTRA’s role involves development of digital engineering requirements specifications for Sydney Metro West design and delivery contract specifications, including the establishment of requirements for BIM, CAD and GIS protocols, data structure and provisions of information throughout the project lifecycle.
Approach
For Sydney Metro to achieve an effective level 3 (6D) implementation, SYSTRA has supported the development of Digital Engineering Strategy Plans, and their alignment with the Engineering, Design and Assurance Management Plan, and the latest TfNSW, Australian and International standards.
In addition, SYSTRA is overseeing and working with designers to support the integrated development of digital engineering deliverables, and the effective implementation of Digital Engineering on contracts. This includes the production of fully federated, interoperable, geo-spatially accurate CAD, BIM and GIS models, and the review of Digital Engineering deliverables to ensure the compliance with standards and to meet Sydney Metro requirements across the project lifecycle.
