**SYSTRA is part of a consortium of contractors carrying out the preliminary design of one of the world’s most ambitious railway projects, the Saudi Landbridge.**

### BOOSTING TRADE AND PASSENGER TRANSPORT

The project involves the creation of a passenger and logistics network
stretching more than 2,000 kilometers across the country from the Red Sea to the
Kingdom’s eastern coast. The construction of this landbridge will establish, for
the first time, a rail link between the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf, connecting
the critical logistical zones of the Port of Dammam, which opens the market to
Asia, and Jeddah, which serves as a key liaison with Europe, Africa and the
Americas.

### Cutting-edge technologies for a range of challenges

SYSTRA teams specialized in rail infrastruc​ture are preparing preliminary
designs with focal points centering on various areas of expertise including
track, large infrastructure, earthworks, hydrology, and geotechnology. Part of
the system (200 kilometers) will include a mixed heavy freight and passenger
line with ERTMS level 2 signaling and a centralized traffic command system.

​​​The Saudi Landbridge Project aims to give the Kingdom a strategic position in
the logistics sector, making it an indispensable player in the region, but it
also represents an important administrative milestone: If it succeeds, this will
be the first railway in Saudi Arabia built on a public-private partnership (PPP)
basis.
