# Makkah Bus Network

![Makkah Bus Network](https://www.systra.com/arabia/wp-content/uploads/sites/25/2023/10/makkah-bus.jpg)

**SYSTRA teams are helping the Holy City of Makkah create its first permanent bus network with the aim of facilitating travel throughout the traffic-heavy city, particularly during the annual Hajj. **

## Supervision from A-Z

The bus network will play a critical role in achieving the Saudi Vision 2030
goal of serving 30 million Umrah visitors in a very congested area. It will also
celebrate the Kingdom’s position at the heart of the Islamic world by better
serving Muslims hailing from all continents.

To achieve this, the network will encompass a total of 12 lines, five of which
will be bus rapid transit (BRT) and the other seven, traditional lines.
Implementing the plan will require the reorganization of many roads by
designating reserved lanes, priority access at intersections and specific road
markings.

To encourage adoption among the city’s inhabitants and pilgrims, the RCMC
promises a maximum interval of 15 minutes between buses.

SYSTRA will supervise implementation of the project from review of the
preliminary and detailed designs through to construction. SYSTRA will also
manage a complete check of the buses from the moment they are delivered, as well
as the intelligence transportation signalling systems.

## FURTHERING Vision 2030

This project is directly tied to KSA’s Vision 2030, the transformative national
goal which aims to diversify the country’s economy in a sustainable manner,
particularly via the development of public transport.
