SYSTRA loaned two experts to BAA, the Owner of the new Terminal 5 of London Heathrow Airport. They are respectively in charge of operation integration and of the definition of the commissioning processes of the Piccadilly Line and Heathrow Express extensions.

On October 11, the California High Speed Rail Authority (CAHSRA) chose the consortium headed by Parsons Brinkerhoff (PB) as program management team. PB’s partners in the consortium include SYSTRA (20%) and several other local companies. Together they will oversee the whole project for the high-speed line, from design to commissioning. SYSTRA S.A. will provide its American subsidiary, SYSTRA Consulting, with the full range of its expertise in the field of high-speed rail.

SYSTRA is once again supporting the VTM international conference on track and maintenance, organised by Le Rail magazine on 27 and 28 November in Paris.

In connection with the EuroMed Transport project financed by the European Union, the representatives of the Mediterranean countries, beneficiaries of the project : Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Malta and Cyprus, met in Paris from 11 to 15 September 2006 and in London the following week, for a railway conference organised by EuroMed Transport, under the aegis of representatives of the European Commission.

At the beginning of June, SYSTRA won a bid to inspect the designs for the Delhi Signature Bridge, reaffirming its reputation as a specialist in large-scale bridge projects.

The Bulgarian Ministry of Transport awarded the contract for the reconstruction and electrification of the Plovdiv - Svilengrad rail link on the border between Greece and Turkey to a consortium composed of SYSTRA, Typsa, Trademco, Louis Berger and Rubicon Engineering.

On 9 May 2006, SYSTRA was awarded the contract to prepare a feasibility study into a high-speed rail link from Kiev to Lviv and from Kiev to Odessa in Ukraine using tilting train technology. Funding for the study is being provided by Natexis Banques Populaires, acting on behalf of the French government (Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industry- DGTPE), as part of the Fund for Research and Aid to the Private Sector (FASEP).

Entreprise du Métro d’Alger (Algiers Metro Company - EMA) has awarded the SYSTRA /RATP Development consortium the contract to provide assistance with the follow-up of design studies, installation and fitting out of fixed equipment for all systems on line 1 phase 1 of the Algiers metro. This includes stations, rolling stock and workshops.

The Turin automatic metro, based on the VAL system, will be officially inaugurated on 4 February, just a few days before the start of the 2006 Winter Olympic Games.

The Basarab bridge, which takes its name from the nearby metro station, is designed to improve traffic flows in the north-west of Bucarest.
