SYSTRA is increasing its involvement in the Dubai Metro Project |
|
After completion of the preliminary studies (30% design), the preparation and the follow-up of the calls for tender for the construction of the Dubai Metro, SYSTRA, in a joint venture with Parsons (SYSTRA : 55% - Parsons : 45 %), has now been awarded the contract for inspection of the civil engineering and systems studies, for project management, supervision of the works tests and follow up of the guarantee.
The project will require a full range of systems and civil engineering skills. It comprises viaduct and tunnel sections, stations, depots, and control centres. The permanent on-the-spot team will consist of 20 to 30 SYSTRA and Parsons staff, depending on the stage of the project. They will be assisted by teams from Paris and by an Egyptian partner (ACE) for the civil engineering part.
The project will be completed in two phases: a first section, the Red Line (52 km over 50 months), and a provisional section, the Green Line, (17 km over 36 months). The construction will be carried out by the international consortium, DURL (Dubai Rail Link) led by Mitsubishi, under a civil engineering and systems turnkey contract.
The project is set to be the largest automatic metro system in the world and will be the centre of attention for the urban transport and engineering community in the coming years. The environmental conditions in Dubai, both geological and climatic, and the prestigious nature of the project make it both a technical and a financial challenge.
