PROJECT MANAGEMENT OF LINE 4 OF THE LYONS TRAMWAY
SYSTRA has won a contract for the project management of the first 2 sections (10 km in total) of the latest Lyons tramway line. The planned fourth line, known as T4, will eventually link the Part Dieu area in the centre of Lyons to Les Minguettes, in the district of Vénissieux. The line will serve the Boulevard des Etats Unis in the 8th district, the public transport hub at Vénissieux station and other key locations in Vénissieux, including the town hall and the new media library.
The new line will provide connections between the main underground and tramway lines of the Lyons transport network.
The construction of these first two sections is being carried out for the client SYTRAL, the Lyons area transport authority.
Studies will begin in January and last 18 months. Work is planned to start in mid 2006, with the line due to come into service at the end of 2008.
As Leading Contractor, SYSTRA will be in charge of a team of specialist firms including :
- SYSTRA itself, responsible for the project management and engineering of the tramway system
- ARCADIS, responsible for building the track, civil engineering works and project planning
- A team of landscape architects headed by ATTICA and the Lyons-based consultants ILEX
When work is fully underway, a team of around thirty engineers and technicians will be employed on the project.
Also of note is that this new public transport line with its own dedicated lane (TCSP) will serve the densely-populated area of Les Minguettes which has been waiting 15 years for a new line. It should also help to regenerate what has traditionally been a problem area and the subject of a major urban development plan.
