Euro-Mediterranean co-operation for transport

The Euro-Mediterranean Transport Project has a budget of 10 million euros over 4 years and is financed by the European Commission. It is intended to develop exchanges between the current 15 member states of the European Union, and the 12 Mediterranean countries (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Israel, the Palestinian Territories, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Malta and Cyprus).

In that context, Systra which is a member of a consortium led by GTZ (Germany) and also including SGI-Trademco (Greece), OGM (Belgium) and EUI (Italy), has recently signed a major contract.

This is the main contract for a series of projects. It is more specifically concerned with the institutional aspects of the transport sector for the various modes, and with the implementation of measures designed to facilitate exchanges between countries. The contract is also intended to integrate the results of the other projects currently being launched which focus on transport infrastructures and modal policies.

Under that project, Systra is responsible for completing an overall assessment of the situation in the transport sector in all 12 Mediterranean countries, and for drawing up a Regional Plan of Action in the short and medium terms, to be validated by the European Commission and the 12 countries involved.
