U.K.:
CTRL - Section 2

The first two major contracts were awarded on January 19, for Section 2 of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) - as planned. Letting these contracts means that construction of the final phase of the UK's first high-speed line into London's St Pancras will begin on schedule in July 2001 and the entire project remains on course for completion in 2007.

According to the "RLE agreement", SYSTRA, with its partners BECHTEL, OVE ARUP, and HALCROW, is the designer and project manager of Sections 1 and 2 of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link project. Section 1 from the Channel Tunnel to Fawkham Junction (109 km) is under construction (56% complete, on time and within budget) and is planned to be in operation in September 2003. When section 2 (74 km) will be completed, the journey time from London's St Pancras to Paris will be 2 hours 20 minutes.
