LATVIA : SYSTRA has just started a 9-month study of RIGA public transportation network.

The first stage of the study will include a diagnosis of RIGA current transportation system and transportation needs, and will determine the city main routes; then SYSTRA will make proposals to optimize the network in the short run, and will identify one or several corridors deemed appropriate to the creation of a light rail transit (LRT) system.
In a second stage, SYSTRA will launch a feasibility study of the corridor eventually selected.
At the same time, SYSTRA will analyse all the institutional, legal and organization aspects to recommend different financial and legal arrangements.
RIGA is a town of 790 000 inhabitants. Its public transportation network is quite developed, with 8 tramway lines, 23 trolleybus lines and 60 bus lines. Private companies also run 40 microbus lines.
SYSTRA, which has already launched a feasibility study for a LRT system in Vilnius five months ago, is comforting its presence in the Baltic States.
