Mumbai Metro One

Mumbai Metro One Private Limited, who own the concession for the first Metro line in Mumbai (formerly Bombay), have awarded the engineering contract and management consultancy contract to SYSTRA, in association with Parsons Brinckerhoff International. The contract was signed on 14th February.

 This will be the first metro line in the city of Mumbai, which has 15 million inhabitants. The line, which will run entirely on viaduct with a double track and standard gauge, is known as VAG (Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar). It will be 11.5km long and have 12 stations.

 Mumbai Metro One Private Limited is a consortium composed of Reliance Energy Limited and Mumbai Metropolitan Development Authority (the authority in charge of development for the Mumbai Metropolitan region). The consortium won the concession for the construction, operation and maintenance of the line for a period of 35 years as part of a public-private partnership.

 The SYSTRA - Parsons Brinckerhoff International consortium in partnership with their local subsidiaries SYSTRA India and Parsons Brinckerhoff India is chiefly responsible for :

  • Basic design

  • Preparation of tender documents for the construction work and systems supply

  • assistance with assessing the bids

  • implementation studies for civil engineering, track and electrification

  • design review for the other systems and sub-systems and their integration

 The other part of the contract comprises project management, supervision of works and assistance with testing and commissioning.

 Work has just begun and the project is due to be completed in 2 years. This new venture will enable SYSTRA, which has already played a significant role in the construction of the New Delhi Metro, to further consolidate its position in India.
