Following a European call for tenders issued in 2002, SYSTRA, together with Metropolitana Milanese S.p.A. and local partners, has been awarded on 5 August last the engineering contract for the construction of the first line of the automatic metro in Brescia (total length: circa 15 km) which is due to be commissioned in 2009.
In addition to the overall coordination of the project, the contract covers three main missions: checking of the design produced by the builder (ASTALDI / ANSALDO consortium), works inspection, supervision of commissioning, operation and maintenance over the first two years.
This success, which confirms SYSTRA's position in Italy in the field of urban transportation, comes after two other major contracts, where SYSTRA is or was in charge of engineering (design and works inspection):
The first tramway line in Messina, circa 7.7 km in length, which was commissioned in May of this year.
The first line of the VAL, in Turin (circa 14 km long), which is being built since the beginning of 2001, with a first section scheduled for commissioning in late 2005.
After Lille (lines 1 and 2), Toulouse (lines A and B), Rennes (line 1) and Orlyval, the contracts in Turin and Brescia also confirm SYSTRA's success in the field of civil engineering for automatic metros.
