POLAND : SYSTRA will provide technical assistance to Gdansk city

A consortium lead by SYSTRA and including ARM (Poland), BIK (Poland) and CIE Consult (Ireland) will provide technical assistance to Gdansk in Poland. The contract, awarded after a call for tenders, is financed by the EBRD and will last until the end of 2003.

The consortium will assist Gdansk City and the transport operator ZKM for the purchase of equipment (bus and tramway) and the rehabilitation works. They will set up an efficient model of traffic forecast and determine medium term projects, including the documents of call for tenders.

Gdansk is located on the Baltic Coast and has 460,000 inhabitants. It is the main city of a metropolitan area of almost 900,000 inhabitants. The transport system is well developed. A north - south rail line runs across the metropolitan area. ZKM operates 66 bus lines and 10 tramway lines, which often run two by two or three by three. Traffic amounts to 180 million passengers / year.
