SYSTRA will be the prime contractor of Saint-Etienne (France) second
tramway line, after a call for tenders issued by Saint-Etienne Métropole.
SYSTRA is the leader of a consortium which also includes EEG-Simecsol
and the town planners AABD and AREP.
The new line, from Châteaucreux station (TGV
station) to Place du Peuple downtown, will be 2 km long. The project
also includes the restructuration of 2 km of the existing tramway
line beyond Place du Peuple.
The consortium is in charge of the whole transport
infrastructure and urban planning along the lines. The contract
should come to an end in October 2005.
Saint-Etienne, about 50 km south-west of Lyons,
has 185 000 inhabitants. The Saint Etienne Metropolitan Area, with
450 000 inhabitants, is the 7th urban area of France.
The tramway line is currently used by 14 000 000 travellers/year.
