Whilst the major cities of the world are developing increasingly interconnected public transport networks (metro, tramways, Bus Rapid Transit), medium-sized towns are focussing their efforts on building tramway lines or Bus Rapid Transits (BRT). This trend can be seen all over the world and is proving to be very efficient in removing traffic from the town centres. This explains why SYSTRA is currently involved in building around 20 tramway projects throughout the world, and is responsible for preliminary studies (design, planning, etc.), project management, assistance to the owner and supervision of works.

Bordeaux: the world’s first catenary-free tramway
The Bordeaux tramway network is impressive: 48 km consisting of 3 interconnecting lines and 86 stations. SYSTRA has won a contract to manage two phases of the project. The extensions planned for phase 3 have also been awarded to SYSTRA. There are plans to build an additional 15.5km of line and a further 35 stations. Commissioning and launch of the line is due at the end of 2013, beginning of 2014.
