Telecommunications Engineer

Telecommunications engineers develop and plan tools for communications between the trains and the control centre.

Part of their responsibilities involves testing and validating new radio systems, including the new European GSM-Rail standard and the Tetra system.

Valérie, telecoms engineer

"I am especially motivated by projects which benefit the community. I joined SYSTRA to work on creating a knowledge pool. Since then, at the Transport Equipment and Systems headquarters, I’ve been involved in various projects working as a telecoms engineer : the high-speed Lyon-Turin cross-border link, where my knowledge of Italian was very useful, the upgrade of the Algerian SNTF telecommunications network, the extension of the A61 motorway to six lanes, and so on. My roles are very varied : basic and detailed design, drawing up specifications for telecoms systems and subsequent on-site testing.

My most exciting experience was in Mexico. I was sent there on a very challenging job : drawing up specifications for the creation of a transmission network for the MRT. I had to go on site and work alone to finalise the technical specifications documents. My Spanish really helped !

To succeed at SYSTRA it is absolutely essential to be open-minded, curious and proactive."
