Currently, the capital of Taiwan has six metro lines. The second phase of the network is under construction and, when finished, will consist of seven new lines and 57 stations.

The first line (the Mucha Line) which was brought into service in Taipei in 1996 and which is equipped with the VAL system, is due to be extended in this second phase and will be called the Neihu Line.
The Neihu Line, 15 km in length and with 12 stations, will run on a viaduct for 11 km. To ensure that the line is best suited to the dense urban area, the Taiwan Department of Rapid Transit Systems has chosen the U-shaped viaduct design developed by SYSTRA. The standard U-shaped spans and the integrated pile elements are prefabricated in order to speed up construction.
SYSTRA had already handled coordination between the E&M systems and civil engineering works and had provided training for operations and maintenance staff on the Mucha line at the beginning of the nineties.
SYSTRA will act as ‘Special Design Consultant’ for local designers working on the Neihu line, and will provide assistance for all systems, as well as viaduct, track and depot design.
