The Bucharest Metro operator, METROREX SA, has chosen the METROUL (lead partner) / SYSTRA Consortium to supervise works on the construction of a fifth metro line for the Bucharest metro. The contract, worth 36.7m RON (9.6m Euros), was signed on 24 April 2009.
The METROUL / SYSTRA consortium will provide assistance to the owner with the approval of designs, selection of contractors and supervision of the construction of the new line which will link the district of Drumul Taberei to Universitate station. The project is due to last 60 months and will include 14 stations and a depot, situated right in the heart of Bucharest and presenting a challenge for construction works.
SYSTRA is heavily involved in the provision of new metro lines for the Bucharest metro and is currently completing a project financed by the World Bank and designed to programme all investment in public transport in the Romanian capital. More new metro lines are due for construction or completion in the next few years.
In winning the largest engineering contract of its kind in the country, SYSTRA has ensured the future of its business in the urban transport sector in Romania and established itself as a leader among international companies working in this field. The project strengthens our partnership with METROUL SA, the long-standing engineering consultants for the Bucharest metro, who have become close partners in our expansion in Romania.
