Supervision of Line 2 of the Sofia Metro in Bulgaria

Following a call for tenders, the contract for the supervision of construction of the Sofia metro has been awarded to SYSTRA, in partnership with two Bulgarian engineering firms specialising in metro projects : Infra Project and Metro Consult.

The contract was signed on 28 May 2008 by Stoyan Bratoev, Director of the Sofia Metro, and Vincent Rousselot, Director of SYSTRA’s Bulgarian branch office, in the presence of the Bulgarian Minister of Transport, Mr Petar Moutaftchiev and the mayor of Sofia, Mr Boiko Borissov.

The Sofia metro currently consists of a single line which is in the process of being extended. Line 2 will run underground for a distance of 10 km and serve five stations. Four kilometers of tunnel were built during the Eighties. Commissioning and launch of the line is due in 2012.

SYSTRA will handle the contract through its Bulgarian branch office, SYSTRA-Bulgaria, which was set up at the beginning of 2008.
