Signalling Engineer

Signalling engineers are responsible for managing traffic for all public transport systems. They implement all the systems necessary to guarantee the safety of trains in motion : signalling, points, automated systems, control centres etc.

Signalling engineers are responsible for signalling specifications for new lines, or for modernising existing lines, to ensure safety and optimal traffic.

They keep up-to-date with international regulations and manufacturing innovations.

Emmanuel, signalling engineer

"My job is very varied because I could be called on at any stage of a project : drawing up specifications, preparing calls for tender, study and selection of bids, project management and sometimes maintenance services after commissioning.

I also find it fascinating to always have to keep up-to-date with developments in technology. For example, when relay technology moved on from electro-mechanical to IT-based systems, we had to quickly rethink many of the solutions we offer.

Lastly, you have to be able to demonstrate originality and creativity ! When a tramway is commissioned today, you have to know how to step back from existing principles and come up with a more developed signalling system which meets current safety standards."
