SYSTRA Consultant for Al Safooh Tram Project in Dubai

In a press conference held on April 29, the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority announced the implementation of the Al Safooh Tram project, stretching 14 km along Al Safooh Road and linking Madinat Jumeirah with Dubai Marina. SYSTRA will act as RTA Consultant of the Project.

In 2005, SYSTRA had already undertaken a study of transportation improvements of Al Safooh Area. Subsequentely, in 2006, SYSTRA performed a feasibility study and recommended a tramline connecting the Dubai Metro Red Line and the Palm Jumeirah Monorail.

The Al Safooh Tram Project is part and parcel of a master plan to provide mass transit systems up to 2020, covering metro, tram, bus, and marine lines. The path of Al Safooh Tram interchanges with the Red Line of Dubai Metro at three stations along Sheikh Zayed Road. The Tram will also interlink with the monorail of The Palm Jumeirah at the entry point of The Palm at Al Safooh Road.

Al Safooh Tram Project adopts the latest technologies, particularly in power supply. The tram will be catenary free and will be supplied with electricity through a safe and modern ground cable system. Al Safooh Tram will be the world’s first tram network to use platform screen doors, thus maintaining the efficient air-conditioning of stations and tram cars.
