Reims Tramway (France)

The Reims tramway will be a single line of around 10 km in length. To finance the project, the city of Reims decided to grant a concession contract to a consortium, to design, build and operate the line.

The city of Reims will delegate the operation of the entire Reims transport network to the chosen consortium, within the framework of a public service concession due to run for 30 years.

Since July 2004, SYSTRA has provided assistance to the owner for the management and supervision of construction of the first tramway line and for updating the analysis of travel needs throughout the city.

Work completed to date includes :

  • supervision of the project management contract for the development of pre-project technical studies and preparation of administrative documents ;
  • advice about setting up financial arrangements for the new transport network ;
  • helping to draw up the specifications for the public service concession contract ; and
  • helping to choose the concessionaire and define the concession contract.

Apart from administration and management of the project, SYSTRA has, since October 2006, provided supervision and inspection of the concessionaire’s work during the detailed design study phases. This role will continue during construction, trials, launch of the service and for the first year of the operation of the tramway.
