Following a call for tenders, and subject to the approval of the administrative documents, the consortium which is led by SYSTRA and also includes Technital, Lombardi Italy, Ineco and le cabinet d’architecture Dominique Perrault, was awarded the preliminary study for the first phase of Palermo automatic metro.
The first phase is 7.3 km long, with 10 stations, entirely built underground, except for the depot. On completion, the line should total 23 km in length, with 23 stations. The project is for a driverless light rail transit system. The study phase is due to last 1 year or so.
In Italy, SYSTRA is developing into one of the leading actors in automatic metro construction, given its current and active involvement in the construction of the Turin VAL and of the Automatic Metro in Brescia.
