Kaohsiung Metro (Taïwan)

Kaohsiung is the second largest city in Taiwan. It is situated on the south of the island and has a network of 64 buses, but as yet, there is no urban rail infrastructure.

A network of two metro lines is currently under construction :

  • Red line, which runs north-south : 28.3 km (19.8 of tunnel, 8.5 of viaduct) and 23 stations (15 underground, 8 overground) ; and
  • Orange line, which runs east-west : 42.7 km (14.4 underground) and 37 stations (14 underground). Journey time : 25 minutes.

SYSTRA has been in charge of project management assistance, since 2001, mainly in risk management projects and electro-mechanical systems, for the Taiwanese Construction Project Manager, China Engineering Consultants, Inc.

Key Dates

  • 2000 : launch of project ;
  • 2006 : expected launch of first section ; and
  • 2007 : full launch of the service for both lines.
