EuroMed Transport Project

The EuroMed Transport Project is part of the MEDA programme financed by the European Commission, following the 1995 Barcelona conference between the 15 members of the European Union and the Mediterranean countries. In 2003 the contract was awarded by the European Commission to a consortium headed by GTZ (Germany).

The countries involved were : Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Israel, Palestine, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Cyprus and Malta. The contract is due to run for four years. The objective is to create a zone for ease of access between the 25 European countries and the 12 southern Mediterranean countries, based on an efficient, sustainable and safe transport system.
