Inauguration of the Dubai Metro

9 September 2009 (999) saw the official inauguration of the Red Line on the Dubai Metro, with the commercial commissioning, from 10 September, of 10 key stations out of the 29 the line will eventually have. The other stations are to be opened to the public gradually over the following weeks.

The Dubai Metro is currently the largest metro project in the world. It is made up of two lines - the Red Line, measuring 52 kilometres in length, and the Green Line, 23 kilometres long and due to enter into service during 2010. Since 2005, SYSTRA has been overseeing activities in all areas of the project (design review, project management, supervision of works, works tests and follow up of the guarantee) for the entire network. Just six years have passed since the first preliminary studies were drawn up, a task entrusted to SYSTRA in 2003 and for which the company had to beat off international competition.

This major project has enabled SYSTRA to position itself in terms of landmark engineering projects for urban and rail transport throughout the Gulf region. SYSTRA has set up a regional office which currently employs almost 400 people, 300 of them working on the metro project.
