The jury for the National Engineering Awards, chaired by Claude Martinand, Vice-Chairman of the Conseil Général des Ponts et Chaussées, met on 25 June and awarded First Prize to Daniel Dutoit for the overall designs and management of the Dubai metro project.
This annual prize is awarded to engineers for the design and preparation of a project (whether already completed or in progress), for infrastructure, public refurbishment, buildings, industrial construction or complex systems. Candidates are judged on the originality or innovation shown, the range of ability demonstrated, specific application of engineering and this year, on the contribution of the project to furthering sustainable development.
In Dubai, SYSTRA is providing full multi-disciplinary project management on the largest metro project in the world. Daniel Dutoit has been involved in this project since the call for tenders for designs in 2003, as head of the team in charge of the bid which came up with innovative designs, in particular, a U-structure, which was the result of a special architectural study. Daniel then managed the civil engineering designs drawn up by the Civil & Structural Engineering Department, and later, at the Department of Engineering, he was in charge of the co-ordination of all the disciplines to implement all the specialist aspects of the project.
The National Engineering Awards ceremony will take place on 2 October 2008, on the occasion of the 7th Engineering Congress, to be held at the Cite des Sciences et de l’Industrie at la Villette in Paris.
