Electrical Power Engineer

Electrical power engineers work on engineering studies for the electrical power supply to urban and rail transport.

An essential part of the job is to decide on the correct capacity for the power supply : AC (15kV, 25 kV) or DC (750V, 1.5 kV).

They also study back current and electrical interface compatibility.

Étienne, electrical power engineer

"My job consists of making very specific assessments of the electricity requirements necessary for the smooth operation of a tram, trolleybus or train. It’s a very broad job, needing expertise as well as engineering ability. I’m involved in the drawing up and selection of calls for tender and supervision of work on site. I’m based in Paris, but still need to travel a lot, eg to Egypt, Portugal, Costa Rica, Venezuela etc. : I’ve been able to develop professional skills in my field really quickly."
