On May 31st, 2007 SYSTRA signed a contract worth around 3 million euros with the Highways Department of the City of Warsaw. The contract is to draw up designs for the Krasiñski Bridge, from basic design to preparations for the call for tenders.
The bridge, which will span the Vistula River, is a 280-metre bowstring bridge, designed to carry a four-lane highway and two tramway lines. SYSTRA’s brief also includes the connecting structures : two access viaducts, 5 underpasses and a major interchange, totalling 3km in length.
The designs are due for completion within 8 months.
For some years now, SYSTRA has been developing expertise in the field of large-scale cable bridges : cable-stay bridges, extradosed bridges and, like this one, bowstring bridges. With a central section ranging from 100-500 metres, these bridges are mainly used to carry roads and railway lines for trams, metros and trains, even including high-speed trains.
As well as this, SYSTRA has been highly active in Poland for a number of years, including carrying out railway institutional studies for UTK, preparing design studies for the upgrading of line E59 on behalf of PKP and supervising works to upgrade line E20, in partnership with Safège.
