Design engineering covers all studies prior to a project : feasibility studies, preliminary and detailed design, technical and economic studies, tender documents, infrastructure opportunity studies, modelling, traffic forecasts, travel surveys, environmental studies, impact studies, integration studies and design of transport hubs.
Teheran MRT (Iran)
SYSTRA carried out a study for a long-term plan for an MRT network (due in 2030) for TUSC, the Teheran Metro Company. An important aspect of the study is that it is the first one ever to deal with the issue of provision of services to Teheran province.
Line 2 of the Mashhad MRT (Iran)
SYSTRA made studies into the operation and technical specifications of the systems and rolling stock for line 2 of the Mashhad MRT.
Burj Dubai Tramway (United Arab Emirates)
Preliminary and detailed designs, call for tenders and commissioning supervision of a tramway type transport system, as part of the Burj Dubai urban development.
New Poitiers-Limoges Line (France)
SYSTRA conducted pre-studies for the functioning of the new Poitiers-Limoges high-speed line and provided assistance with the preparation of the public debate on the project, on-going since 2004.
Courbessac Viaduct (France)
Basic design on the civil engineering for the Courbessac rail viaduct in Nimes. The new viaduct will provide direct access to Nimes station for passenger trains from Alès, eliminating the need to change at Courbessac, on-going since 2004.

Morocco Rail Master Plan
On behalf of the Moroccan national railways (ONCF), SYSTRA outlined a master plan for the national main line network and conducted a feasibility study for the Casablanca– Marrakech high-speed rail link.
Teheran - Mashhad High-Speed Line (Iran)
SYSTRA, in partnership with METRA Consultants, was appointed by the Iranian Ministry of Transport to carry out feasibility studies for the Teheran – Mashhad high-speed line, which is 800 km in length.
Reunion Island Tram-Train (France)
Between 2005 and 2006, SYSTRA was responsible for the basic design for the first phase of the project to build a 40-km tram-train line, including 10 km of tunnel, between Saint-Paul and Saint-Denis.

North-South Rail Link For the Mining Sector in Saudi Arabia
SYSTRA carried out preliminary and detailed technical studies for the North-South rail project between the bauxite and phosphate mines of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Coast. The project comprised 1800 km of new rail freight lines and the upgrading 400 km of existing line.

Hanoi LRT (Vietnam)
SYSTRA was appointed to carry out a feasibility study for a pilot public transport line in Hanoi. The aim of this project was to enable the People’s Committee of Hanoi to select the most appropriate route and transport system for Hanoi, taking into account the climate, topography, traffic, technical problems and financing of the line.
Martinique Public Transport System on a Segregated Site (France)
SYSTRA made studies leading to the definition of the final plan submitted to public enquiry for the construction, by 2011, of a two-line 13.8 km "flexible tramway on tyres" on a segregated site. The tramway will serve both Lamentin town centre and Lamentin airport from the Fort-de-France commercial centre. SYSTRA defined the pricing structure for the planned tramway, the organisation and financing of operations, along with the preparation of documents prior to the public enquiry, 2004-2006.
Marguerittes Transport Hub (France)
Between 2004 and 2005, SYSTRA carried out a study for possible developments to the rail network and the creation of a terminus at Marguerittes, with the aim of improving the TER service around Nîmes.
Providing Access to the Marseilles Metro For People With Reduced Mobility (France)
Between 2004 and 2005, SYSTRA executed a study to define technical solutions to handle the interface between platforms and rolling stock, in order to facilitate access to the Marseilles metro for people with reduced mobility.

Rio de Janeiro Tramway (Brazil)
SYSTRA carried out a study to define the technical and financial feasibility of a medium-sized transport system in the Barra da Tijuca district of Rio de Janeiro.
Time Phasing For the Rail Network (France)
Between 2003 and 2005, as part of an approach launched by French Railways (RFF), SYSTRA was involved in a project to optimise the capacity of the French rail network ; this was based on the principle of time phasing, and building an integrated passenger timetable for main line and regional services.
Dubai AGT (United Arab Emirates)
Following a preliminary study, which highlighted the need to create a public transport system on a segregated site in Dubai which would cope with the significant growth in population expected in the next 15 years, the city of Dubai awarded SYSTRA a contract for preliminary engineering studies which included conceptual studies (mode, alignment), traffic forecasts, "30% design", preparation and conduct of calls for tender for all aspects of the project.
Suzhou MRT (China)
SYSTRA carried out a study for the improvement of the Suzhou city transport network and, since autumn 2003, has been responsible for checking all civil engineering designs and systems for line 1 of the MRT.
Tallinn LRT (Estonia)
SYSTRA carried out a technical, economic and financial feasibility study for the tramway network improvement scenario and for the optimisation of the intermodal transport system chosen for the city of Tallinn.

Greater Tunis Public Transport Network (Tunisia)
Feasibility study / Preliminary design for the public transport network on the long-term, consisting of a fast rail network which is largely still to be built, together with the extension and modernisation of the existing LRT network and bus lines to be built on a segregated site.

SYSTRA was chosen, together with city services and local transport companies, to carry out a feasibility study into the public transport system best suited to the city’s strategic plan : a network of three tramway lines linked to the existing bus and trolleybus networks.

Cairo Metro (Egypt)
Since the first Greater Cairo transport plan drawn up in the 1970s, SYSTRA has worked alongside the NAT (National Authority for Tunnels) to develop the city transport network. Between 1998 and 2000, SYSTRA was responsible for the preparation of a second transport plan and feasibility study for the third line (27 km, 30 stations) of the Greater Cairo metro, marking a new stage in this partnership.
Mexico Metro (Mexico)
Since the creation of the Mexico metro in 1967, SYSTRA has accompanied every stage of its development. More recently, in 2001-2003, SYSTRA carried out a feasibility study for line 12 and also, in 2003, a functional analysis of lines 1, 2 and 3 with a view to upgrading them.
