Design and Project Management for the Hyderabad Metro

SYSTRA has been selected, together with Parsons Brinckenhoff, by Maytas Metro Limited (MML) to carry out the engineering design and project-management of the Hyderabad metro project. The agreement was signed on 22 October 2008.

Phase 1 of the Hyderabad metro network project involves the construction of 3 double-track electrified lines spanning a total of 71 km, with 66 stations. All the lines will run elevated. The first line, running from the north-west to the south-east district of the city, is 30 km long, and has 27 stations. The second, running from the north to the south of the city, is 15 km long, and has 16 stations. The third, running from the east to the west of the city, is 26 km long, and has 23 stations. The 3 lines form a triangle in the city centre, and intersect at 3 points : Ameerpet, Parade Grounds and Osmania Medical College. The project is being completely financed by a Build-Operate-Transfer scheme.

The engineering and project management team will assist the concessionaire - MML - in all aspects of the project. In particular, it will provide assistance in carrying out constructional design, in drawing up invitations to tender for all parts of the project (civil and systems engineering), in evaluating bids, in supervising and commissioning works, in ensuring quality control and in managing the project as a whole.

The whole project is due for completion in early 2013.

Hyderabad is the fourth city in India, after Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, to select SYSTRA for the implementation of its metro project. The SYSTRA group is also recognised in India for its expertise in the railway construction industry (it has recently been awarded a contract to carry out feasibility studies for Mumbai’s new suburban transport system), in transport planning (it has been involved in the New Delhi Master plan) and in the design and construction of major public works (the cable-stayed Signature Bridge, the extradosed Pragati Maidan bridge, and the extradosed bridge over the Moolchand underpass).
